Scientist And The Specimen

I glide my hands along this cage
the cold steel stinging my fingers
the walls are closing in on me
The metal door slams shut
And I see you turn the key
your white lab coat starched
clipboard taking notes slowly
So slowly

And I see your face in focus
as you're peering down at me
Your eyes searching
for answers you want to foresee

An animal in a cage
thats what I am
doing tricks for you
thats what I am
you never loved me (never loved me)
you just used me (you used me)
The scientist and the specimen
thats you and I

You thought this was fun
my heart your project
turning it around in your palm
Pinning me up on display
so you could study me
all my reality you precisely weigh
sterile the passion you display
I’m on display

And I see your face in focus
as you're peering down at me
Your eyes searching
for answers that you want to foresee

An animal in a cage
thats what I am
doing tricks for you
thats what I am
you never loved me (never loved me)
you just used me (you used me)
The scientist and the specimen
thats you and I

I’m done with your analysis
theres nothing to be found
I’m rejecting your hypothesis
I’m burning this lab to the ground

And I see your face in focus
as you're peering down at me
Your eyes searching
for answers that you want to foresee

An animal in a cage
thats what I am
doing tricks for you
thats what I am
you never loved me (never loved me)
you just used me (you used me)
The scientist and the specimen
thats you and I

An animal in your cage
you never loved me
you never loved me
you just used me
an animal in your cage
the scientist and the specimen
Thats you and I
